I have stayed in a Renaissance once which was in Shanghai. Nice enough but did not blow the doors off anything. I think it has some age on it. The regualr Marriott and JW Marriott(of course)in Shanghai were nicer. I guess it depends on how it ages.

I can see people staying here before they stay downtown unless their business is DT. It puts pressure on the North Raleigh Hilton who has done major upgrades. (the stall in building this hotel gave the NRH plenty of time to get that done. The best thing about staying here a business travelor is you have access to good restaurants for business dealings and can also get the wife and kid a gift without leaving. Also, go see a movie if you want. So many people stay at Crabtree since there is something to do or see or eat around there but not always walkable. This is walkable but my guess will not be cheap when it opens.

To bad the downtown Marriott did not look like this building (simple - nothing great either, but with a little flare). Downtown Marriott is one ugly building.
