Tookies Closes on Six Forks

Fans of Tookie’s chicken salad will have to venture downtown now. The location in the gas station on Six Forks Road (formerly Gullie’s) has closed. The restaurant recently opened a location in the Seaboard Station.

This marks the fourth decent lunch spot lost from the the Six Forks/Wake Forest Road area. The immaculate Taco Bell at Holly Park is blending into the A&W/KFC site on Six Forks. Papa Lou’s closed a few months ago, and Anthony, the owner of the outstanding Schlotzky’s location, got “the right price” from Arby’s.

    I imagine once that nasty road construction on the Wake Forest Road & I-440 intersection is over with…and once Holly Park does its renovation complete with a new Trader Joe’s, the area will see improvements of lunch spots.

    Well, it is nice to see downtown “stealing” some from other areas :LOL: Never tried the food at Tookie’s, but I’ll give it a chance.

    As for the Wake Forest Rd/Six Forks Rd intersection, what can I say? That area needs a lot of work. So much potential, so little interest for true urbanity. Unfortunately, between being a landfill (Costco site) and a flood zone, nobody in his right mind would invest on a major redevelopment effort. Maybe in the future, if the flooding issue is handled, somehow.

    Dana where is the location again ? I can not figure out where this place is as I did not know it existed and it is in the neighborhood I travel.

    Costco is an awesome lunch spot! Large piece of pizza and a soda for around $3.00. Not to mention the freshly prepared sandwiches, salads and the cheapest Gas in town. Can’t beat that!

    WE WILL JUST HAVE TO GO OVER TO SEABOARD STATION TO GET THE CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH. IT’S A NICER PLACE TO SIT AND HAVE LUNCH ANYWAY.
