Hamilton Impresses in Derby

image MLB rising star Josh Hamilton showed up to the Home Run Derby last night and didn’t disappoint. The Athens Drive High School grad set a record with his 28 first round homers (video), but unfortunately wasn’t able to deliver in the last round to win it all. Hamilton plays for the Texas Rangers and currently ranks 18th in Major League Baseball, batting .310.

For those who don’t know how this works, a player either swings and hits a home run over the fence, swings and doesn’t (which is considered an out,) or doesn’t swing because he doesn’t like the pitch. Hamilton hit 28 home runs before getting 10 outs. It’s absolutely incredible to think that someone has the strength and stamina to do this as hitting a ball that far wears you out fast. This year is an awesome story for a hometown guy.

At one point during that first round he hit 13 homeruns on 13 consecutive pitches… crazy! TO put that in perspective, the second highest TOTAL for the first round was 8 homeruns. No one will even remember that he didn’t end up winning it all.
