Marshall Tucker Band Coming to Buckhead Saloon
Today’s music announcement begs these questions: Can Southern Rock bands be “legendary” without naming themselves after a non-band member? How about losing key band members to car crashes and disease throughout its history? Can the remaining members put a group together with new guys and still hit the road? The answer to those is emphatically YEAH, MAN!
It’s been 28 years since Spartanburg’s Marshall Tucker Band lost Tommy Caldwell to an auto crash. Toy Caldwell died in ‘93 from heart disease, and George McCorkle succumbed to cancer last summer, but by golly, the band survives. See them at the Buckhead Saloon on September 13.
Note: Typos finally corrected. Thanks Jed! ![]()

1. Succumbed.
2. “FROM” heart disease, not form
3. and George McCorkle (you have an extra space)
4. “without naming themselves after a non-band member?” does this make sense?
5. “answer to both of those”….you asked three questions, not two.
Pot calling the kettle black. Come on Dana don’t hate if you too are making the same mistakes.

“the same mistakes”
typos & an extra space are not comparable to posting a story after only speaking to disgruntled employees & not management & then not retracting the erroneous article after it was proven untrue by an actual journalist. what you did, jedidiah, is libel, & you’re lucky no one cares enough about your blog to notice or sue.

Melissa,
I think he was referring to the recent comment I made on his site. There is an article reporting the loss of the Martin St. Pizza chef. Unfortunately the bulk of the article consists of attacking owner Don “Bennder”, spelling the name incorrectly several times. Of course, comments followed carrying a posthumous tone about the restaurant, which is, in fact, open and still serving great food.

Melissa,
I wasn’t referring to anything you are referencing, I was referring to Dana’s comment on the Martin Street article.

Also Melissa, if you go back on read our article again on Yancy’s, you will see that we did retract our statement that Yancy’s was closed and linked to the fact that ABC said such. We linked to all articles relative to this story and understand the situation.
We were not the original source to claim this, ABC (actual journalists) was.

regardless if it was about another article or not, it just substantiates my claim of your (& others’) not talking with the sources directly. this omission distorts reality, misconstrues facts & is detrimental to your readers. (ie–”comments followed carrying a posthumous tone.”)

um, does it matter what article it’s referring to? it applies to pretty much all of them…

As I said on the Martin st. pizza post on newraleigh, Dana’s done a bang-up job for years and I’m not sure I am interested any longer in reading that other blog.

I appreciate the comments, y’all, but I think newraleigh does a good job overall and is an asset to Raleigh. I cover stuff I think is pertinent, but this site really isn’t for everybody. No site really is, and it takes a good mix to make us have great coverage for a great city.

a good mix is needed, but snide remarks from one blogger to another aren’t.

WTF does any of this have to do with Marshall Tucker Band?
Back to the music:
We mayyyy get .38 Special, too.
I’m REALLY excited about all of this.

I thought I saw a flyer for .38 Special some time around July 4…a block party or so? Did anyone attend? Maybe we’ll get them back?
I think with the Longbranch gone, there are plennnty of bands like this who are still viable for clubs. I’m not so sure where these up-and-coming country/alt-country artists are going to play, but Buckhead is a nice, big facility.

Since we’re slinging it around concerning pizza, here’s a funny video that is topical:

I don’t know where they may have been locally earlier this summer, but they’ve yet to make it to Buckhead. I’m 99% sure it’s a go for this fall though… and yes, with the Longbranch gone we are definitely open, willing, and going after up and coming country/alt-country… send me your suggestions anytime!
