WRAL to Test MPH Mobile DTV Device

Engadget HD is reporting that WRAL is already testing the ATSC-compatible MPH mobile television transmission system. This will allow local digital over-the-air signals to devices such as cellphones, portable TVs, and laptops. The signal apparently will work in moving cars and transit vehicles, too.

The article also mentions that the Raleigh/Durham and Las Vegas markets will be the first to test the new DVB-SH standard. This standard allows for IP-based content and data to handhelds using a hybrid satellite/terrestrial connection.
