NCSU Touts Future in New Promo Video
Touting hands-on learning opportunities and an “autobahn of ideas”, the new N.C. State promotional video hit ESPN’s broadcast during halftime of the NCSU at South Carolina game. The video is the flagship of a new awareness campaign for the university.
“While our campus environment is changing and growing, NC State’s commitment to excellence, innovation and a spirit of collaboration remains strong,” Chancellor James Oblinger said. “The new awareness campaign will highlight NC State’s determined, eager and tenacious approach.
Its extremely direct approach and fast tempo are eye-catching and straight to the point. The video is an appropriate one for a university where technology, scientific research, and pragmatism trump dreamy nostalgia and idealism. What were your first impressions?

I liked it. They did a good job with the background hues and transitions between the State signage and the courtyard over on Centennial. Definitely got their point across over being a fast paced developing institution.

I couldn’t help but wish it would’ve been filmed and broadcast in HD. The “Autobahn of Innovation”, yet still can’t get an HD camera to film it. I know I’m being picky, but with most college games being broadcast in HD, it could’ve looked a lot better.

Talk is cheap. NCSU is not one of the top four schools in the state, i.e. UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, Davidson. With that being said, they should lose the arrogant tone in the commercial. Boost your SAT scores, endowment, selectivity, then call yourselves the “autobahn of innovation” One more thing, UNC is not NCSU’s rival. UNC competes with Duke. NCSU’s rival is East Carolina.

It’s a nice looking commercial and has the best production value of any NCSU commercial I’ve ever seen, but like VoiceofReason^ said, talk is cheap. I don’t agree with the rest of his analysis, however. State’s a great school with a ton of great research. So instead of just claiming that they’re the on-ramp to success, SHOW us. Get some high quality footage of some research projects, of the aerospace senior design projects, of the pet prosthetics. Not just some dude standing in front of a building bragging about what’s going on inside but refusing to let us see it.

I didn’t see that this commercial was about rivalries, as VoiceofReason^seems to think. NCSU’s Centennial Campus was named “Research Park of the Year” for 2007, and it seems that UNC is trying (slowly) to replicate it in Chapel Hill with “University North” – only about 25 years behind.

I liked it as well. Many of the students cheer whenever the commercial comes on at the football games.

I agree it should have been filmed in HD, but otherwise was slick. Who is the Dennis Miller wannabe that does the standup?

HD – YES…but add on later NCSU’s work on biofuels, wind
power, nanotextiles, architecture, design, vets, environment,
economics, computer science, Dole foods – especially natural resources etc etc etc
Forget juvenile institutional competition…just stress the
REAL INNOVATIONS that ensure a CHANCE of US’s competing in
global marketplace !
