Area Stations Stage Digital TV Test

Last week Wilmington tested the digital TV rollout, and tonight the entire state will take the test. Viewers using over-the-air (OTA) analog signals will get a warning message containing a number to call for information while viewers using digital signals will see no programming interruptions. Basically, if you aren’t using rabbit ears you don’t need to worry.

In other news, I can get you a really good deal on a Sony Watchman. Inquire within.

I’ve been meaning to look this info up – those who have basic cable, but no digital box (ie: in bedrooms/offices/etc) from a wall outlet… still good? Need for a converter?

    Still good

Yeah, this transition is only for VHF/UHF over the air signals. Basic analog cable is “broadcasted” out of the cable company. They’re not changing things as far as I know, though they are continuing the push for folks to switch to digital so that one day in the future they too can drop the analog signals.

February ’09 they drop the over-the-air analog broadcast signal for good.

Cable is required, I believe, to maintain analog till 2012. You can already receive local digital programming via cable without boxes using ClearQAM capable TVs.
