Agreed VaNC, there is PLENTY to do here in Raleigh - and not in just Raleigh alone, but within a 20-30 miles radius as well. I am a museum lover myself and what our area has to offer are some real treasures for people like myself.

However - not that I am missing out, but it really would be nice to have a Six Flags theme park or something in the same class in our backyard. Carowinds and King's Dominion are each 3 hours away (and I have heard many other people in addition to Tony say that Carowinds isn't exactly one of the nicer theme parks to visit). That's a pretty long day trip. 1.5 million people here in the Triangle, plus how many more in a 75 mile radius? You would think there ought to be a market for such a park (in an ideally healthy economy, anyway). Once upon a time rumor had it that a Six Flags was coming to Garner or Clayton near Hwy 70 and I-40, but that was quite some time ago and nothing came of it.

What I'd really like to see for Raleigh, though, is a nice zoo. I've heard the stories as to how a zoo ended up in Asheboro and nowhere else in NC, but that's too far away. Surely our state can support more than one zoo.

Although it is true there is no theme park here, there is TONS for kids to do and much of it is free or inexpensive. Personally, I would rather do something simple locally than spend a bunch of money at a theme park, but that is just me. Just making the point that just because we have no flashy theme park, or arcade, doesn't mean this is an area devoid of kid activities. Far from it. We have tons of great kid friendly museums, all of which have classes, and events in addition to the museum. Lot of arts events and classes. Tons of parks, trails, which also have events. Lots of kid oriented programs at libraries, malls, bookstores, schools, charities. Great playgrounds, etc. etc. etc.

There was an article in the Triangle Bus Journal years ago "Water Park off of 540". Of course, as usual around here, never heard a word again.

This area NEEDS entertainment for the kids and adults (The Triangle SHOULD have it's own water park). Carowinds is DISGUSTING, will never take my kids there again (was with friends and family, they were shocked - food was poor, bathrooms were a mess, grounds are very dirty - I was embarrassed). Greensboro is a hole in the wall, but the water park is just OK.

Raleigh, WAKE UP! What takes this area so long to do ANYTHING for the kids. This area needs entertainment for the kids (water park, theme park, amusement park). Pullen is not acceptable and Adventure Landing is, well, pathetic.

Remember when they relocated the London Bridge to the desert in, what, Arizona? We should do that with the Brooklyn Bridge and put it over there at the old Dix site overlooking the dt.
