GSK Assigns RTP As Sole HQ

Broughton Gets 150+ Parking Spaces

The Raleigh City Council voted 7-1 today to approve a plan for 100 new parking spaces on the remaining front lawn space. Councilman Thomas Crowder was the only dissenting vote.

The Council asked the school to use permeable material that could later be removed to restore the lawn in the future, should the need arise. Additionally, the school will regain control of “The Strip”, which will enable 90-degree parking and allow for the return of 50 more spaces.

Anthony Bourdain Coming to Durham

bourdain Outspoken chef Anthony Bourdain will be speaking in Durham Thursday, February 19 at the new Performing Arts Center. Bourdain’s flagship work, Kitchen Confidential, is an expose on the dubious side of the culinary industry. The work gained him instant celebrity status, and led to TV shows such as A Cook’s Tour and No Reservations. Tickets are $20, $35, and $100 and are available through Ticketmaster.

Rosie’s Plate Hosting Open House/Tasting

Rosie’s Plate, a prepared food service which focuses on freshly-made and gluten-, shellfish-, and peanut-free, will host a Food Tasting and Open House on November 7 from 5:30 to 8:00pm.

The event coincides with First Friday, and the public is welcome to drop by 701 North Person Street and taste some of the foods Rosie’s offers. Chef Anne Everitt will be on hand to answer questions, and attendees can take a tour of the eco-friendly facility.

In addition to the food, Rosie’s Plate will transform its unique building into a gallery-type setting to showcase the acrylic and mixed media paintings of local artist Rebecca Worters.

This is good because let me tell you, the difficulty filling vacant big boxes with quality stores is way up there, so the areas tend to get blighted when the stores don’t make it.
