Joe’s Place Closes

joes On January 25, 2006, I posted the sad news that Joe’s Place (Featuring Joe’s Mom’s Food) would be closing in weeks. Owner Joe Sciolino later recanted. Three years later Sciolino says he’s had enough. Thanks so much for the 29 years, Mr. Sciolino. You ran a clean business with a lot of personality, and that will be missed.

Now would somebody get on the phone and call Elmo’s Diner, a no-brainer for downtown Raleigh?

Now they can remove all those buildings in that area and build a office/retail/entertainment complex (very ugly area)

It’s a shame. But I’m not surprised. While the prices were good and I liked the location, the food taste reminded me too much of my high school cafeteria.

Elmo’s? That would be freakin’ fantastic. But I think if they ever do finally make the leap into opening a third location and putting it in Raleigh, they’d probably opt for a bit larger space than Joe’s. (Everytime I’ve visited their Carrboro or Durham locations, they were packed like a sardine can.)

I’m beginning to think Tony is trolling on all blogs downtown Raleigh with this tear down everything mentality he has.
