I was just looking at that place from my perch across the street (Bojangles) and wondering how the hell that place stays open. Now I know.

Papa Lou’s wasn’t destroyed by Cook Out, the owners (which also owns Carolina Ale Houses) decided to pull out of the “fast food” burger market, they also closed the other Papa Lou’s on Wake Forest Rd. This was pretty disappointing to me because I felt they made the best burgers and fries in Raleigh, their special sauce was great. It didn’t really fit the “cheap” burger model for a college area like Cook Out did, I’ll give you that.

I agree, Hunter. Papa Lou’s was a good burger. I’d rank Five Guys #1 for the fast-food burger, though. Papa Lou’s also have fantastic chicken fingers.

I am so bummed about the DQ closing!
