Moore Square Farmer’s Market Returns Wednesday
On Wednesday (April 15) the Moore Square Farmer’s Market will re-open for its’ fourth season in Moore Square Park. It will take place through August every Wednesday from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm.
In celebration of the markets’ fourth season, and to raise awareness about its mission to bring the highest quality local growers and food artisans together in downtown Raleigh, select restaurants will feature a “Green Plate Special” in their restaurants the last Wednesday of each month this season. Each “Green Plate Special” will highlight farm-fresh ingredients from the Moore Square Farmers Market; with each restaurant determining their own specific offering for lunch and/or dinner. The “Green Plate Special” will serve as a reminder about the outstanding local fare at this boutique market in the heart of downtown Raleigh. Current participating restaurants include Zely & Ritz (April 29), Second Empire (May 27), Poole’s Diner (June 24), Jibarra (July 29) and Moe’s Diner (August 26). (Other Triangle restaurants are welcome to join in support of the Moore Square Farmers Market with a “Green Plate Special” offered in their restaurant; please contact Market Manger Karen Sieber at 919-832-1231to join the promotion and for a calendar date.)
Also the Moore Square Farmers Market will be the first stop on Taste Carolina’s new downtown Raleigh walking tour, beginning April 22nd. Their Wednesday tour will begin at the Moore Square Farmers Market where a chef will introduce participants to local growers before meeting them back at his Glenwood South restaurant for a dish prepared using local ingredients selected at the market. The tour will also make stops at Fayetteville Street and Glenwood South restaurants, with tastes offered along the way.
And in an effort to fulfill the markets’ mission to help build relationships between local farmers and chefs, Ashley Christensen (Owner/Chef of Poole’s Diner), who is also a market board member, will host a Farmer-Chef Meet & Greet for farmers/artisans and Triangle chefs on Tuesday May 12th from 4pm to 6pm. Farmers will share information about their growing methods and crops, as well as wholesale pricing and delivery details for chefs.
