CableCARD customers wanting HBO are only getting ONE of the HBO channels.

The problem here is that in 1996 the Federal Government ruled that cable TV is a service. Thus it is unlawful to require customers to be forced into using the service provider’s proprietary equipment. At one point Southern Bell leased the phones to customers, and it was the only way to obtain a phone. Imagine if they allowed us to go out and buy our own phones, but prevented us from being able to use long distance, caller ID, call waiting, and other services with the equipment we have bought.
