Another Busy Week in Raleigh
The coming week packs plenty for area residents. Drift continues its run at the Kennedy Theatre thru Sunday, while Cirque Dreams Illumination is playing thru Sunday at the DPAC. Charlie Goodnights welcomes Greg Warren for a weekend run this weekend, while the Cat’s Cradle will take an unusual step toward comedy by hosting a sold-out Margaret Cho performance Thursday night. (you know, younger college students don’t go out and drink these days like they did 20-50 years ago, so the music industry is kind of drying up)
Fall means ethnic festivals, and the best of the year, the Greek Festival, begins Friday at the Expo building at the State Fairgrounds. The Bavarian Brathaus in Cary will sponsor its first-ever Oktoberfest Extravaganza (at the restaurant).
There is plenty of music to go around. Works Progress Administration, fronted by Toad The Wet Sprocket’s Glen Phillips, will play the Lincoln Theatre on Thursday. String Machine will play at Seaboard Shops on Friday evening, while Yo La Tengo plays Durham’s Carolina Theatre. On Saturday They Might Be Giants are at the art museum amphitheater, while local faves Arrogance will hold their 40th birthday reunion show (of the band, that is) at the Cat’s Cradle. On Monday, the Cradle welcomes Ingrid Michaelson, who is getting a lot of press push these days.
There is plenty of sports to go around, too. The Carolina Hurricanes will host Nashville in a Friday night exhibition game where the new, giant scoreboard will be officially unveiled. The Flyball Club will host their tournament at the NC State Fairgrounds this weekend. If football is your thing, NCSU hosts Gardner-Webb while UNC welcomes the ECU Pirates on Saturday. On Sunday the Carolina Hurricanes will be hosting the Caniac Carnival on Sunday morning at 9am. This year there is no game tied with the event.

Jimmy John’s Coming to Wake Forest/Six Forks
Sue Stock at the N&O that Jimmy John’s will be taking the space formerly occupied by Blockbuster Video on Wake Forest Road (near Costco). The site will open around Thanksgiving and will feature a drive-thru.
Philadelphia Public Libraries Set To Close
As of October 2, due to budget constraints. All branch activities and programs will be shut down and all books are due by October 1. Of course, this move is pending emergency funding from the Pennsylvania State Legistlature, which will probably come through in the end. Nevertheless, in the era of the internet, it would be interesting to see how many people actually miss the public library’s facilities and services should funding not come through.

Downtown Bars Approach Opening
A couple of new bars coming to downtown are on the verge of officially opening. The old space that was The Office will soon be Tantra Ultra Lounge. Word is that they are having their VIP opening tonight.
A much-anticipated upfit on Glenwood is finally having its soft opening tonight. , located next to the Armadillo Grill, is a European, chic lounge with a wide range of music and a patio (great night to be out, tonight!)
A/J’s New York Eatery Now Open in Crabtree
The former location of Le Garlic Bistro is now home to A/J’s New York Eatery. The food court restaurant’s menu features deli sandwiches made with Boar’s Head meats including ham, turkey, roast beef, pastrami, corned beef, and others. Additionally they serve breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs, cheeseburgers, homemade salads, and cold cuts by the pound. Hopefully it will be a good enough addition (to an already strong food court) to push out Subway.
Waste Collection Schedule Unchanged
Many government branches and services are closed today, as well as many businesses. However because the City of Raleigh does not have Monday garbage routes, there is no change to the solid waste collection schedule this week.

Busy Week Ahead in Raleigh
It looks like another busy week ahead in the Raleigh area! Today is the last day the N.C. Museum of Art will be open until late spring. The museum is moving to their new facility and needs downtime to create the new exhibits. On Tuesday The Fray pops into Durham while on Thursday afternoon there is live music at The Depot featuring local band Crush.
A quiet midweek is just the calm before the storm. On Friday, there will be another Seaboard Music event featuring the Filmore Valley Boys. Also Friday, DL Hughley starts his run at Charlie Goodnights, while at Dorton Arena the Carolina Rollergirls take on Boston. That city, famous for it’s Pops, leads us to the big, free, NC Symphony performance in Moore Square Saturday night.
That won’t be the only busy area of downtown on Saturday night. In the Progress Energy Center Ron White will be in Memorial Auditorium while Drift, directed by Lauren Kennedy and starring Alan Campbell, closes out the Hot Summer Nights at the Kennedy summer playhouse series. The Greencards will also be at the Fletcher Theatre on Saturday night.
At the fairgrounds the Great Train Expo will be going on all weekend, while the Wolfpack takes on Murray State at Carter-Finley Saturday night. The weekend closes out Sunday night with a visit from Sun Volt at the Cat’s Cradle.

Download the Best UNC Depth Chart on the Net
Tonight is the Battle of the Light Blues. The Citadel marches into Kenan Stadium at 6pm to take on the Tar Heels. The Heels return after an 8-5 campaign last season that ended in a 1-point loss to West Virginia in the Meineke Car Care Bowl. In the regular season, the team lost three games by a combined 8 points before suffering a meltdown blowout to N.C. State.
The team finished 11th in the league in total defense last year, and hopes to make great strides with much experience, talent, and depth on the line and at linebacker. In order for the Heels to stop teams, they will have to get better on the corners and stop the big plays. Of course, pressure from linebackers, a strategy rarely used last season, will have to be applied to rattle the opposing QB.
Many questions remain on offense, too. The Heels’ top returning player is the ACC’s sixth-most efficient running back, Shaun Draughn. Also notable is the return of a healthy T.J. Yates, who keeps his starting position despite heavy competition from high school All-American Mike Paulus and former North Carolina Player of the Year Braden Hanson. A talentless and inexperienced offensive line fronts an experienced backfield. Rounding out the offense is a talented, yet inexperienced Wide Receiver corps. In order to move the ball this season, the Heels have to master the short passing game in order to open up the running game.

The 2-deep chart features each players highest high school achievement and denotes which players were recuiting studs, are inexperienced, and are Seniors. The right side of the chart lists the incoming recruits, with font-size emphasizing the rookie’s rating as a prospect.
