I know and I took the perfect opportunity to say the truth about ECU and academics. It's a cakewalk school. Everyone knows this.

Not with my experience. I usually see Duke and ECU fans as the jerks.

gd - do you ever get the feeling that UNC fans think they are better than NCSU or ECU folks? I certainly get that feeling talking to them. Go to any small town in North Carolina and I will gurantee you that the UNC grads will act superior to the NCSU and ECU grads. I've heard many UNC fans call ECU EZU.

As a UNC fan, I will never support Duke sports. I should include I went to NCSU and Duke for college, but I am a UNC fan (grew up that, remained that). I found a lot of the students on the Duke campus to think they are better than other people. I never got this feeling at NCSU.

I would like to hear about more than just the blogger's favorite teams too, but, then again, it's not my blog.

The Duke football thing is a great story this year, and perhaps if one wants to get comprehensive local sports analysis that includes more objective coverage, there is a local sports blog out there for it.

I was just concurring with the posts above that if you are giving a run down of what's going on in the Triangle you should include a game between Duke and the #7 team in the nation. I would never expect you to "pimp" Duke. But as a Duke fan I'm glad to know we had your support in the 1991, 92 and 2001 championship game and I look forward to your support in future final four games.

So the Duke fans, who pulled for Kansas in the '91 Final Four, want a Carolina fan to spend time going out of his way to pimp their football team? Let me think about it...no. Let me think about it again....no.

I've had my fair share of bad experience with UNC and State fans. Some a lot worse than the stories above. Don't get me started on how bad UNC and State fans can be on us ECU fans. However, ALL the schools in the area have great graduates and supporters and all the schools in the Triangle help make this place special. Seems shortsighted to exclude the activiies and happenings of just one school based on a bad experience with four fans.

I for one am excited about watching Duke play for a shot at the ACC Championship this weekend and can tell you that the fellas on the team (not the four kids in the stands) work awful hard and give a lot back to the community and deserve the support of the community. I've read about many of the student athletes from all the local schools doing great things in the community and I know froming seeing it that that the Duke football players regularly visit with the kids at the Children's Hospital. I hope you'll cut those guys a break and let everybody know that they'll be playing their hearts out on Saturday (just like all the kids from the other schools).

At the NCSU football game I attended earlier this season, I had the displeasure of sitting in front of someone making racist remarks as well, including tossing around the N-word.

Unfortunately, ignorant jerks know no boundaries, although our part of the country (wonderful in many other ways) seems to have more than our fair share of them.

On Saturday I sat in front of four Duke students who ridiculed everything they could think of about the people in front of them: hair styles, clothes, tooth color, the audacity to bring a child to a game, people who live in small towns, and the "lack of sophistication" of the UNC fans. They said that UNC football, its history, and Kenan Stadium are all "a joke". They then proceeded to yell "J.R. can't read!" whenever black people in the stands appeared on the jumbotron. After that they said that the "old people" in our section "should get Alzheimer's".

One can imagine the goodbyes this group got when they quit on their own team and left with 5:18 remaining in the game. In my 13 years of sitting in those seats, I have experienced fans from other schools who were rowdy and said inappropriate things, but I have never encountered any fans who had less regard for their fellow man and who felt such a sense of entitlement.

So, pardon me for not being terribly excited about Duke football.

Best game in area could be Durham where Duke takes on Ga. Tech, the No. 7 team in the nation. Duke has a much better chance of making a bowl than State and will be playing on national television with a chance to win the ACC Coastal Division Championship. I know that college rivalries can blind folks but it seems dumb to not inform people of what's going on in the area over something so dumb.
