TWC Stirs Music Choice Channels

If you are a fan of Music Choice, you may find yourself lost in the new channel allocations from Time Warner in the past couple of days. The service carries 46 channels in all, and has revamped the line up by adding new channels MC MixTape, Hip Hop Classics, Stage & Screen, Toddler Tunes, and True Country. Gone are Bluegrass, Showcase, Show Tunes, Rock ‘En Espanol, Americana, Opera and International Love Songs. Here is the complete list:

Well…thanks for the heads up. News to me. I wonder why they thought there was a need for change.

Can’t say I’m very pleased by this…some of these merged channels makes no sense. Big Band & Swing was a good channel, but merging it with the often-cheesy Singers & Standards will make it watered down, IMO.
Also, “Dance” and “Electronica” were so vastly different, I can’t even imagine merging those two. (In pop terms, it would be like pairing disco with hard rock!) Not a good move.

If the really wanted to enrich their line-up, a true World Music channel would have been greatly appreciated.

Just more evidence that Raleigh needs competition in TV service. I still can’t get AT&T where I live, but I canceled cable anyways. I’ve gone 2 months without and don’t miss it at all!

^Well, to be fair, the re-alignment was done by Music Choice, not Time Warner. However, you’re right that more competition is always a better thing. Each TV subscription service uses a different music provider. (ATT uses Urge Music, DirectTV uses XM/Sirius, etc.)

Even with Music Choice’s recent shuffle, I’m still glad that Time Warner uses them because Music Choice’s sound quality is better than Sirius IMHO….but the latter certainly has some better selection in channels.

(However, I don’t know enough about ATT’s Urge provider to tell ya if it’s better or not.)

I think they also dropped the New Wave channel. That was what used to be Retro-Active, right?

Stage & Screen was a smart replacement for Show Tunes. I wrote to Music Choice years ago suggesting a movie or TV soundtrack channel.

Some of the new station titles are confusing. I understand what I may hear when tuning into R&B Hits as opposed to Throwback Jamz. And what sets True Country apart from other forms of Country music? Is 946 going to be the False Country channel and will I hear Jessica Simpson on it (Yeah, I did. Had to.)?

LaLa – The Music Choice website has a feedback (contact us) online form. You can use it to let them know how you feel. While I’m not a bluegrass fan, I certainly let them know that the whole entire line-up change was just completely horrible. I’m sure they’re already getting some letters to that effect.

For my part Singers and Standards was the default and merging with Swing is too much Benny Goodman and not enough Vicki Carr. The American Songbook deserves its own channel.

I loved the age choices on the comment entry from – “35 and older” was the upper limit. Wow!

I love the classic country. Great selection of songs. It is hard to turn off because I like all the songs.

I’m surprised that you would delete the Opera channel.Along with the other classical channels that remain it was a bright spot to one’s day. Is this your way of telling us that the dumbed-down generation has taken over. Apparently the old pure musical vocal form is deemed to be obsolete in the so-called music world. How sad for all of us.

I saw Dr. Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys this evening in concert at The Johnston County Community College. Last week I had the pleasure of attending a concert with Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver at the Rudy Theater in Selma, NC. These only reminded me of what I have been missing since Bluegrass was taken off Music Choice. I look at all of the channels you retained and wonder why there are somany totally repetative channels, but no room for the truly talanted Bluegrass musicians, Please reconsider your actions.
