Mat Kearney Returning to Cat’s Cradle
The Week gets even better! On Sunday, September 18, Mat Kearney will return to Carrboro’s Cat’s Cradle. Tickets will be available thru the Cradle’s website.
Lemonheads to Perform “Ray” at The Cradle
On Sunday, October 2, The Lemonheads will return to the Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro. The band will play of the classic “ It’s A Shame About Ray ” CD in its entirety as part of the show. The Shining Twins open.
Can we just decline the month of August? This fall is shaping up to be an incredible buffet of live music in the area. If you’re on the fence about this one, go. Evan Dando seems laid back, but is actually a fantastic live performer.
The Pixies Coming to Greensboro

are hitting the road this fall, and have planned a stop at Greensboro’s War Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday, November 8.
Surfer Blood
opens. The ticket presale is currently running (password DOOLITTLE) thru Thursday (7/14) at 10pm.
Note: the new CD coming September 6 will be a Black Francis solo CD with songs by him and Reid Paley. It will be named Paley & Francis.
Arctic Monkeys Coming to Disco Rodeo
On Wednesday, October 12, the Arctic Monkeys will return to the Disco Rodeo. Tickets will go on sale Saturday (7/16) at 10am
Elvis Costello Coming to DPAC
The week of September 18 just may be the greatest music week in the history of the Triangle. On Thursday, September 22, Elvis Costello returns to Durham to play at the DPAC. The AMEX Presale begins Wednesday (7/13) at 10am, while the Public Sale begins Friday (7/15) at Noon.
So far that week has Earth, Wind, & Fire, Ray LaMontagne/Brandi Carlile, Blondie, Fleet Foxes/Walkmen, Widespread Panic, Brad Paisley, and Elvis Costello. Add to that, NCSU is the ESPN national Thursday night game that week (@Cincinnati). I suppose that Arcade Fire and the Foo Fighters will book us during that week, too, huh?
deja fest to Bring 27 Bands to Downtown Raleigh
On Friday and Saturday, July 22 & 23, several downtown venues will host deja fest . The event is free, and features 27 bands. Here is the schedule:

Blondie Coming to the DPAC
On Wednesday, September 21, Blondie will make their way to the DPAC. Tickets go on sale Friday (7/15).
Widespread Coming to The Walt
On Tuesday Widespread Panic announced their Fall tour, which includes a return to the Downtown Raleigh Amphitheater on Friday, September 23. DJ Logic opens. The public ticket sale begins tomorrow morning (7/8) at Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets are general admission and cost $42.50 before added fees. The band also announced that their annual New Years Eve concert will take place this year at Charlotte’s Time Warner Cable Arena. Ticket info for this is not released yet.
Umphrey’s McGee, Krewe Coming to The Walt
On Thursday, September 1, Umphrey’s McGee will return to The Walt in downtown Raleigh. Opening will be Toubab Krewe.
Wilco/Lowe Coming to The Walt
On Tuesday, September 27, Wilco will return to Raleigh to play The Walt. It is the release date of their new album, “The Whole Love”. Nick Lowe opens. No word on tickets yet.
McCreery EP Now Available
American Idol Scotty McCreery’s new EP was released yesterday thru an exclusive deal at Wal-Mart . The 5-song collection contains these tracks:
- I Love You This Big
- The River
- Amazed
- Gone – (sung in the key of B major instead of Mongomery Gentry’s D major)
- Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not
Scotty officially announced the EP’s availability on Twitter yesterday with this comment:
The new ep’s out at @Walmart so if yall head there sometime soon to get some toiletries or beach towels stop by the CDs and check it out haha
Additionally Wal-Mart has released similar EPs from Haley Reinhart , James Durbin , and Lauren Alaina . Rhapsody also has a 13-song American Idol highlights release by Scotty.
Toad the Wet Sprocket Coming to Cat’s Cradle
On Wednesday, August 10, Toad the Wet Sprocket will perform at the Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro. Tickets will be $22 advance, $25 at the door (yeah, right). More info coming soon.
