A/J’s New York Eatery Now Open in Crabtree

ajs The former location of Le Garlic Bistro is now home to A/J’s New York Eatery. The food court restaurant’s menu features deli sandwiches made with Boar’s Head meats including ham, turkey, roast beef, pastrami, corned beef, and others. Additionally they serve breakfast sandwiches, hot dogs, cheeseburgers, homemade salads, and cold cuts by the pound. Hopefully it will be a good enough addition (to an already strong food court) to push out Subway.

Man V. Food Features Durham Tonight

Tonight’s episode of Man Vs. Food travels to Durham where they find the Backyard BBQ Pit and Wimpy’s Grill. The show’s website also mentions Blu Seafood, Four Square, Nosh, Dain’s Place, and Daisy Cakes. The show airs at 10pm on Travel Channel (rerun at 11pm). Here are some more details:

Durham has been called the "Cradle of Cue", so Adam starts his journey with a search for some good ole Eastern Carolina BBQ. His search lands him at Backyard BBQ Pit, which I’ve personally been to and can say from experience is absolutely to die for! They’re known for their chopped BBQ pork, which btw isn’t really chopped, it’s stirred (that’s how tender it is!). In Adam’s own words, the pork "coats your tongue like velvet".

Next up, Adam heads to Wimpy’s Grill which is known for big breakfasts and big burgers. This place is just down the street from Duke University and is a hot spot for tailgating and eating. Adam tries the Garbage Burger – a double cheeseburger topped with bacon, chili, coleslaw, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and condiments. This burger is so messy Adam says, "I feel I need to eat it in the shower".

What do a gymnast, cheerleader, football player, and foodie from Brooklyn all have in common? They’re running the Doughman Relay together for the main event of the episode! Adam and fellow Travel Channel host Dhani Jones team up with a couple locals to take on this 15 mile race of running, biking, swimming, and eating. I don’t want to give too much away, but there is a fried green tomato sandwich involved and Dhani kicks some serious booty on the bike! Will they place in the top five?
Tune-in Wednesday, September 2nd, at 10 E/P to find out! In the meantime, check out this sneak peek video about Wimpy’s Grill (and feel free to post this on your blog).

Bloom Coming to Cary

Food Lion’s “upscale” line of stores, Bloom, will open a store in Cary this coming winter. The store will anchor the new Fairview Village shopping Center, located at the corner of Ten-Ten and Holly Springs Roads (map it).

Bloom’s merchandise is not what makes the store special. Rather it is the in-basket scanners, kiosks, and easy-to-reach shelving that makes Bloom interesting. It is nice to see a grocer who is trying some things outside of the carbon copy systems we see in most grocery stores.
