Harris Teeter Ends 10-Off-40 Promotion

Two years ago Harris Teeter opened a new store in the parking garage of North Hills East to the chagrin of many area residents. The store was awkward to access, had no internet access, and featured a two-story layout that burdened shoppers in their quest for basic items. Shortly after the crowd roared, Harris Teeter responded by rearranging the store, banishing less popular items to the upstairs.

The store also started a direct mail campaign that offered its neighbors a $10 off any purchase of $40 or more. It was such a powerful incentive, many customers returned and became familiar with the store’s layout.

Recently we noticed that the direc mail flyers were more cleverly disguised among our junk mail. However we haven’t received a flyers in a few weeks. According to readers and a store representative the promotion has ended. Apparently the company feels the numbers for the store are close enough to projections.

So what now? Will this change affect your store selection?

ACC Football Schedule for Download Now Available

footballToday the ACC released the complete schedule for the upcoming football season. In typical fashion, gogoraleigh has compiled the schedules into a formats that are easy to import into almost all calendar applications. Included are not only downloadable files for the UNC and NCSU schedules, but also files for the entire ACC conference schedule.

Google Calendar users will find that the existing feed for each of these schedules has been updated, so there is no need change anything if you are already subscribed.

TV has not had a chance to affect the schedule, so the dates are not final and times are not set.

Download ACC Release to your iPad, Daily

ACCReleaseWe are in the home stretch of the regular season for ACC basketball, and each in the trio of Triangle teams is having a fascinating season. One of the most interesting downloadable documents on the internet is the ACC Basketball Press Release; a 25-page document that is chock full of data about the league’s 12 teams. On the iPad, the document (and any other PDF from the web) is even easier to enjoy.

While one sitting with the document is impressive, it is even more impressive to realize that the document is updated on the day after each league game. Keeping up with the ever-changing document can be laborious if a good system isn’t in place. Of course one could just bookmark the above link, but if you really want a system that works better, use this system for downloading this document easily:

Hardware

  • Windows PC (XP/Vista/7)
  • iPad (1 or 2)

Software

  • Autohotkey (for Windows)
  • Dropbox (any platform
  • GoodReader (for iPad)

The Beach Boys Coming to The Walt

beachboysHot off of a special Grammy tribute Sunday night, The Beach Boys announced a 40+ city tour yesterday which features an  April 29 (Sun) date at The Walt. While Raleigh has been a frequent stop for the band through the years, this time the band features all of the surviving original members. The band will be in support of a new not-yet-released album that, too, features the original Boys. General Public tickets go on sale next Saturday (2/25), so get in on next week’s presales.

Hopefully Mike Love will wear the hat pictured so that we will easily be able to identify the band on stage.

Jeffreys Appliance Center Closing

jeffreysThe list of old Raleigh businesses unable to weather this economy grows… Sadly, Jeffreys Appliance & Home Gallery is closing after 43 years of business. The store is currently running their clearance sale, so there are some deals to be had.

I’m sorry to see this store go. My family always bought appliances there, especially after Andy Pittman bought the business about 10 years ago. They presented a good selection of quality items, and appliances were their thing. You weren’t dealing with some distracted teenager who wishes he were selling car stereos, like you see at some of our remaining options.

Wild Wing Café Coming to Crossroads Area

wildwingcafeGood news for wing lovers in West Raleigh and Cary. Wild Wing Café, the 34-store wing chain out of Atlanta, will open “late spring” in the former Jack Astor’s location on Walnut Street (in the BJ’s shopping center). This will be the restaurant’s second area location, as the first is at Brier Creek.

Personally, this is my favorite of the wing outlets. The 35-sauce menu has much variety, but “Island Jerk” still stands as my favorite (even if it does make me think of van-der-sloot).
