Raleigh Big Garden Tour Concludes Today
The Raleigh Big Garden Tour is back with some of the most beautiful gardens in Raleigh. VIP and general admission tickets are still available for the prestigious tour of private, inside-the-beltline gardens. The event, which benefits Raleigh Little Theatre, takes place today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Raleigh Big Garden Tour tickets are $17 each or $15 each for groups of 10 or more. The price includes admission to all eight gardens.
“The gardens on this year’s tour are absolutely gorgeous,” said Tobi Bowen, The Raleigh Big Garden Tour chair. “Because this event is being held on Father’s Day Weekend, it offers a change of pace for those who prefer ‘the green’ they view this weekend not to have a little flag sticking out.”

Little Walter Won’t Become an Alcoholic
Today the State Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission denied Raleigh’s request for an exception to a law prohibiting alcohol-based naming rights. The new amphitheater, which ought to be named after Sir Walter Raleigh, will have to be named after something other than an alcohol product, notably Bud Light.
Apparently carrying the Bud Light name would result in scores of alcoholics in the area, so the City of Raleigh will have to make a contract with someone else, perhaps a company that serves palm-oil based fried food, radiation spewing personal electronic devices, or personal transportation devices people use in running up highway death tallies. Just so long as we don’t become like those people who live near the formerly named Molsen Center in Montreal. Now that is a bunch of worthless alcoholics if I’ve ever seen any.

Evernote Meetup Planned for Next Week
It’s easy to fall in love with Evernote , the cloud-based note organizer. There is a desktop application as well as a slew of mobile apps for entering and quickly finding notes one has made. Use-cases include corralling perpetual shopping lists for certain stores (ie. Home Depot, Grocer, Office Depot, Costco…), lists for CDs to hear, movies to see, shows to watch, wines you loved, as well as a perfect clipper/organizer for recipes.
The list of use-cases goes on. That’s why some Evernote fans in the area are organizing a meetup on Wednesday, June 23 at the Tribeca Tavern where even more use-cases can be bounced around. More information is online as well as on Twitter (#CaryEvernoteMeetup hashtag). Please signup today so that the group can get an organizer party pack from Evernote.

1998 Canes Roster
Ladies and Gentlemen…your 1998 Carolinaaaaaaaa Huricaaaanes. Remember the days of Jeff Brown, Adam Burt, Chris Murray, Kent Manderville, Nelson Emerson, and Curtis Leschyshyn? Take a look at this roster and it will bring back some big-time memories. Also interesting is Page 4 displaying the ticket prices. In 12 years they seem to have risen only around 20%. Not bad.

DOT Begins Graffiti Cleanup in Typical State Gov’t Fashion
Fresh off the heels of a story on WRAL this morning , the DOT was out on I-440 “removing” graffiti from the all-brick Great Wall of Raleigh. Did they sandblast the paint off? No. Did they paint over it with brick-colored paint? No. They decided to camouflage the defacing marks with….beige. Is Lady Gaga in charge of this restoration?
Par for the course in state government, something is being done, but it isn’t the right way. The City of Raleigh has the right attitude about graffiti: get it off and get it off quickly. The point is that publicly visible marks should be removed to avoid rewarding this disrespect for personal and public property. The state? Oh they did something about it, by leaving scars. I wonder if these people would be happy with amalgam fillings in their front teeth.
How hard is it to buy some tinted paint? Answer: It isn’t, for people who take pride in their work. This is one of the many cases where it costs no more money to do it the right way than to slop together some result and call it “done”. What a great message to the public from our government.
You can call (919) 733-2191 to request the job be done right, but honestly, you’ll probably get some self-hating, excuse-making slacker who can’t muster enough pride to do a job the right way.
